Katie Siek
Katie Siek, an associate professor at the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, has been invited to become a member of the Computing Community Consortium Council, a prestigious panel of 20 members who seek to mobilize the computing research community by identifying major research opportunities in the field.
Siek will serve a term of three years with CCC. Her goals are to advocate for new research directions by bringing more voices to the table through the organization of regional CCC meetings and connecting the computing community with complementary professional associations.
“The CCC has had a large influence on my career,” Siek said. “Thanks to the CCC Health IT Visioning activities that contextualized the need for computing in health, I have been able to invest my career in making bridges between computing and health. Now, I have the opportunity to give back to the computing community by serving on the CCC Council to help build momentum for the next high-impact research activities that will address our world's challenges.”
Siek will join the CCC Council along with faculty members from such institutions as Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, and a host of other universities. The CCC Council meets three times every calendar year and holds biweekly conference calls to guide task forces in various areas of computing.
“The CCC Council is an extremely influential group that helps set the direction of research in computing,” said Kay Connelly, associate dean for research at SICE. “We are thrilled that Professor Katie Siek has been selected for such a prestigious position as it reflects on her reputation for being a passionate advocate for using computing to solve real-world problems.”
