- Primary Instructor: Primary instructors are responsible for all of the instruction for an entire course. They may receive a syllabus from their department or group exams, but their students do not receive instruction from any other person during the semester. Typically, primary instructors are responsible for creating daily in-class activities and quizzes, in addition to all grading and feedback for students during the semester.
- Recitation/Discussion Leader: Recitation leaders support large lecture courses by leading separate sessions for a group of students. These study sessions may be focused on problem-solving or in-depth discussion of the topics from the main lecture. Recitation leaders often provide feedback and grades to their students but the credit hours for their sections may be limited.
