The Department of Information and Library Science (ILS) at Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing in Bloomington is pleased to welcome three new faculty members for the Fall 2015 semester: Devan Donaldson, Carol Choksy, and Patrick Shih. Devan Donaldson and Patrick Shih join us as Assistant Professors of Information Science and Carol Choksy as a Lecturer for ILS.
Devan Donaldson researches within the domain of digital curation, examining digital repositories, preservation management, preservation metadata, users and issues of trust and trustworthiness in a digital preservation context. He holds a Ph.D. in Information from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in History from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. In 2005, he studied abroad at Oxford University, Hertford College. He has been a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar since 2002, a Horace H. Rackham Merit Fellow since 2008 and an Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society Member since 2012. Donaldson is also a faculty affiliate with the Data to Insight Center (D2I) here at IU, and is a 2015 Research Data Alliance (RDA) US Data Share Fellow.
Carol Choksy has taught for ILS as an adjunct faculty member for many years. She is also the CEO and Principle Analyst for IRAD Strategic Consulting, Inc. She has more than 30 years of records management experience in nearly every industry and in every part of the records life-cycle. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Domesticating Information: managing documents inside the organization and publishes frequently in the Information Management Journal. She also publishes regularly in foreign policy press about Syria and the Middle East using open source intelligence. Choksy speaks regularly to information technology, records management, human resource, and legal audiences. She is a past president of ARMA International, and received her BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Chicago.
Patrick C. Shih utilizes mixed methods approaches to tackle research problems in human-computer interaction, social media, collective intelligence, crowdsourcing, and online and geographic communities. Currently, he focuses on leveraging awareness of individual and community activities embedded in social media and online forums in the design and construction of novel civic engagement platforms. He received his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from UCLA, M.S. in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon, and Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science from UC Irvine.
