You may view the summer as a welcome break from the classroom and academia; for many students, it can be.
However, if you are looking for opportunities to make the most of this time, you will fnd several ideas listed below that will allow you to engage in productive activities geared toward improving your resume and preparing you for the next steps in your career.
Although tech-related roles can provide you with the opportunity to apply the skills you’re learning in the classroom to real-world situations, part-time jobs don’t necessarily need to be IT-related to be valuable experiences. Remember, soft skills are transferable! Keep in mind that you may be using many of the same resources as you would for a full-time job or internship search, several of which can be found right here on campus.
Some employers may ofer low-stakes opportunities known as job shadows, which allow you to gain exposure to diferent positions you may be interested in.

Summer is a great time to polish some of your soft or transferable skills, such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. What better way to do this than to work or volunteer at a summer camp or program? Some are techoriented and may ofer opportunities to teach and tutor as a part-time tech instructor. Consider getting involved in research by serving as a research assistant to a professor in Luddy. Research provides an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience in the feld, and it allows you to connect with faculty members who are experts in their area of study. Employers love students who take initiative and allow their passion to fourish outside the classroom. Some ideas for personal projects include beginning a blog or building an app. These are great resume builders as well as wonderful ways to apply your newfound technical skills in a hands-on setting.
