Assistant Professors Noriko Hara and Lokman Meho will receive the 2007 Trustees Teaching Award from the School of Library and Information Science in Bloomington. The primary focus of the awards is on classroom teaching, where both have excelled during the past year.
Dr. Hara consistently receives strong, positive evaluations from students. She engages in continuous self reflection and makes an exceptional effort to evaluate her teaching. She has shown a much-appreciated willingness to adapt teaching to the school's changing needs. Her courses integrates technology well and extend the walls of the classroom by providing students with real world experiences, notably in community for projects (e.g. for City of Bloomington). Dr. Hara engages in continuous revision to maintain currency of course content; she has also used her position as ACM student chapter advisor to extend learning opportunities for SLIS students.
Dr. Meho continues to receive strong, positive evaluations from students and peers. His careful, supportive work with faculty and doctoral students teaching courses for which he is responsible has benefits that extend beyond his own classroom. He thinks critically about his teaching and continually explores ways to improve classroom interactions. As a consequence, his careful revisions maintain course currency and improve students' experiences in his courses. Dr. Meho maintains a web listing of student projects from past semesters that is helpful in both recruiting new SLIS students and modeling the work expected of current students. He has provided exceptional encouragement and support for students who submit work from their courses with him for publication.
Congratulations to Noriko and Lokman!
