Geoffrey Fox
Geoffrey Fox, a distinguished professor at the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, will be honored with the HPDC 2019 Achievement Award at the 28th International Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing in Phoenix June 24-28.
Fox will be recognized for his foundational contributions to parallel computing, high-performance software, the interface between applications and systems, contributions to education, and outreach to underrepresented communities.
The HPDC Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the field of HPDC, to raise awareness of these contributions—especially among the younger generation of Ph.D. students—and to improve the image and public relations of the HPDC community. Fox is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery and is the director of the Digital Science Center at SICE. He currently works in applying computer science from infrastructure to analytics in biology, pathology, sensor clouds, earthquake and ice-sheet science, image processing, deep learning, manufacturing, network science, and particle physics.
As part of the award, Fox will deliver a keynote address at HPDC 2019.
“Geoffrey’s groundbreaking work has been extraordinary, and his influence on a generation of researchers can’t be overstated,” said Raj Acharya, dean of SICE. “Our faculty at SICE are world-renowned experts in their respective fields, and Geoffrey’s experience, vision, and passion are examples for all of us.”
